Biography

Andreas Tobias, born December 6, 1984, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, made his stage debut at the age of just eleven years old at Kurtheater Garmisch. This performance drummed up his enthusiasm for acting and Tobias set up a school theatre group that put up several plays, including a production of Eugène Ionesco’s play "Rhinocéros" ("Rhinoceros"). He then took numerous occasional jobs to pay for actor’s training and finally landed a key supporting role in the elaborate ARD three-part movie "Der Wunschbaum" alongside Alexandra Maria Lara in 2003. One year later, Tobias moved to Hamburg where he played a leading role in the TV series "Die Albertis" (2003 to 2004). After graduating from high school in 2005, Andreas Tobias was seen in the role of Melchior in a production of Frank Wedekind’s play "Frühlings Erwachen" ("Spring Awakening") at Deutsches Schauspielhaus. In the theatre season 2006, Tobias became a cast member of Christian Stückl’s Volkstheater in Munich where he stayed until 2009 and performed in the most different roles. Besides his theatre career, Tobias is occasionally seen in TV and movie productions, for instance, in Uli Edel’s film "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex" ("The Baader Meinhof Complex", 2008) and in the British movie production "The Other Possibility" (2007).

Andreas Tobias then played his most important part to date in the historical adventure drama "Nanga Parbat" (2009/2010): Directed by Joseph Vilsmaier, Tobias stars alongside Florian Stetter in the role of the mountaineer Günther Messner who climbed the Nanga Parbat Mountain together with his brother Reinhold in 1970 but died during the descent.
